What is Solid‐State Fermentation about?
Solid-state fermentation (SSF) has been proven to supply necessities for human beings on a regular basis since its inception. But now, due to technological advancement, skilled practices and machineries in the field of fermentation technology make the process easy and efficient. The chapter highlights the historical roadmap of SSF. Historical advancement of SSF is very well known to everyone in the pharmaceuticals and food processing sector. Heat transfer efficiency in SSF is related to the specific microorganisms' activity, thus this chapter discusses the role of microbes and factors affecting its growth within the bioreactors. This chapter elucidates the current study on the principles of SSF and its applications in fermentation technology and its allied sectors. It is used in producing high-quality goods and boosts consumer acceptability by processing safe food items, which is essential for strengthening the business at a global level. Finally, this chapter summarizes the prospects for modern SSF using basic theories of microbiology, instrumentation and regulation principles to carry out the process.
