What is Bai 2016 - Isolation and Characterization of Sphingomonas Sp. Y2 Capable of High-Efficiency Degradation of Nonylphenol Polyethoxylates in Wastewater about?
This study isolated a bacterium, Sphingomonas sp. Y2, from wastewater sludge that was capable of degrading nonylphenol polyethoxylates with high efficiency. Testing showed the bacterium could remove 99.2% of NPEOs within 30 hours, which is the highest degradation efficiency reported for a pure bacterium under the conditions tested. The bacterium also effectively degraded NPEOs in wastewater, removing 98.5% within 5 days, indicating it has potential for use in bioremediating wastewater contamination.
