Can I read Alkali Metals in Soils on EtoBox?
Alkali Metals in Soils by Guy J. Levy; Asher Bar-Tal is a book available to read on EtoBox.
What is Alkali Metals in Soils about?
The current chapter focuses on potassium (K) and sodium (Na) of the alkali metals following their central role in agricultural soils. The former is an essential plant macro-nutrient and accumulation of the latter in soils often results in degradation of soil structure and associated physicochemical, physical and hydraulic properties. In soil, K is present mostly in the structural pool (90%), while the K ion in the soil solution is just 1 to 2% of the soil K pool, yet it is the most available form for plants. Sodium is, in general, the dominant alkali cation in soils. Productivity in Na-affected (sodic) soils is limited because of deterioration in the physical properties, crop tolerance to Na per se and plant nutrition in Na-affected soils.
