This study investigates the FEV1 quotient (FEV1Q) as a predictor of mortality in patients with COPD and chronic respiratory failure, analyzing data from 5,711 patients. The findings reveal that higher FEV1Q levels correlate with lower mortality risk, with a notable threshold for increased risk identified at FEV1Q values below 1.0. However, neither FEV1Q nor FEV1 %-predicted values were deemed useful for predicting individual mortality risk in this cohort.
