What is Understanding Meaningful Use of EHRs about?

Certified electronic health records (EHRs) can help reform the healthcare system when used meaningfully. Stage 1 of meaningful use focuses on using EHRs to electronically capture health information, track key clinical conditions, coordinate care, and report clinical quality and public health measures. For Stage 1 starting in 2011, CMS proposes 25 objectives for eligible professionals and 23 for eligible hospitals that must be met to be considered meaningful EHR users.
