This article discusses the emergence of the first political party in Mizoram called the Mizo Union. Prior to British rule, Mizo society was organized under local chiefs. When the British annexed Mizoram in 1889-1890, they established an authoritarian administration under the Superintendent. There was no political activity allowed.
