What is Book review about?

This book is a survey of recent advances and developments by experts in the technique of multiple correspondence analysis (MCA). MCA is an extension of correspondence analysis, which is basically a method for analysing contingency tables (though, with appropriate coding, can be applied to many types of non-negative data in a 'rows by columns' matrix). MCA extends this to the analysis of multiple categorical variables, most commonly applied to a matrix where individuals, objects or cases make up the rows, and the columns represent categories of the variables, with scores or values coded as for dummy variables in, say, regression analysis. Data in this form is referred to as an 'indicator matrix'. Where the categories are ordered (i.e. the original variables are measured on an ordinal scale) the MCA can function as a principal components analysis. The most distinctive features of correspondence analysis are its ability to reduce a complex data set to a small set of dimensions that capture the main variance in the data; and then render that structure visually, as a display where differences between data points are represented as distances. The book is an edited collection, with twenty
