The study examined heat shock proteins (HSPs) and oxidative stress levels in fish that naturally live in different thermal conditions. Fish living in hot spring water at 34.4°C showed higher levels of HSP70, HSP60, HSP90, HSC70 and GRP75 compared to fish living in normal river water at 25.4°C. The hot spring fish also had lower levels of oxidative stress markers like protein carbonyls and lipid hydroperoxides, indicating increased HSP levels provide protection against oxidative stress.
