The Knights Templar had contact with Hashashin groups in the Middle East which introduced them to knowledge of cannabis use and alchemy. This knowledge was passed down secretly through medieval alchemists and occult groups. The Templars are believed to have incorporated esoteric Islamic practices like those of the Sufis and Assassins, including possible cannabis use. When the Templars were later accused of heresy and abolished, this hidden knowledge was lost except to some occult groups.
