What is BOOK REVIEWS: Nephrology for the Practicing Physician about?

A student who had read the contents of this book and had retained them during his undergraduate paediatric term should have a good overview of the subject and should even be able to acquit himself satisfactorily in a viva-voce examination. The sections on social paediatrics, although written for readers in the United Kingdom, are easily translated to the Australian scene. In any case, there is little fundamental difference now in recognized principles of child health between the two countries. If one is prepared to accept this book for what it was intended, it would appear to be a "good buy". If it retains the price at which it is sold in the United Kingdom (or one not too far removed), it should come within the budget of most medical students and have a wide appeal because of its simplicity. In order to derive the best educational benefit, however, its owner should have ready access to a medical library to fill in the details. WILLIAM B. MACDONALD.
