This paper proposes a new type of steel-timber composite beam called the Nordic system. The beam consists of cross-laminated timber slabs installed on the bottom flanges of an asymmetric welded steel box. Composite action is achieved through connecting the slabs to the steel beam with steel plates. This composite action reduces stresses in the steel beam compared to a pure steel beam without composite action, allowing for lighter and more efficient designs.
