Hilda Rix Nicholas (1884-1961) was an influential Australian artist known for her post-impressionist landscapes and training under Frederick McCubbin. After marrying during World War I and returning to Australia, she gained recognition with a successful exhibition and became an Associate of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. Despite her earlier success, she became critical of modernism and fell out of favor in the Australian art scene, with her last solo show in 1947.
