What is Understanding Mechanical Advantage in Levers about?

A lever is a simple machine that uses a fulcrum to multiply or change the direction of a force. There are three classes of levers - class 1 has the fulcrum in the middle and can multiply force or distance, class 2 always multiplies force, and class 3 always multiplies distance. Mechanical advantage is the ratio of output force to input force, or lengths of the lever arms. Other simple machines discussed include inclined planes, screws, wedges, pulleys, and block and tackle systems.
