Why do I feel able to write about Vacuum Assisted Closure® (V.A.C.®) therapy and wound care? It's a long story and first I need to will tell you a little about me. For 25 years I was an officer in the Royal Navy, but I had to leave in 2000 after a pan-proctocolectomy because of ulcerative colitis. It became a permanent ileostomy and while my stoma and loss of earnings represented quite a shock for me and for my self image, I was able to get on with my life.
