What is A just development energy transition in India? about?
The world’s most populous democracy, India, has taken steps to transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources. However, injustices related to nascent large-scale renewable efforts in India provide early warning that without changes, the energy transition in India will not be just. The transition toward renewable energy is reproducing social inequalities and will continue to further marginalize those living in poverty. To achieve an ecologically and socially sustainable energy present and future in India and beyond, energy governance must become more participatory and socially just, representing the needs of all regardless of socioeconomic status, gender, or religion. A justice-centered approach offers a pathway for an inclusive energy transition for all Indians.
