The cell cycle consists of interphase and the M-phase, with interphase taking up about 95% of the cycle and involving G1, S, and G2 phases for growth and DNA replication. The M-phase includes karyokinesis (mitosis) and cytokinesis, where genetic material is divided and two daughter cells are formed. Mitosis occurs in four stages: prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase, followed by cytokinesis which physically divides the cytoplasm.
