A transient ischemic attack (TIA), or mini-stroke, is a temporary neurological event caused by a brief blockage or narrowing of blood flow to the brain that resolves within 24 hours. Symptoms of a TIA include vision problems, dizziness, weakness, and trouble speaking. There is a high risk of a major stroke within 90 days if not treated. Medical attention should be sought immediately for a TIA to reduce the risk of a subsequent stroke through medication, lifestyle changes, or carotid artery surgery.
