This study investigates the impact of cigarette smoke on the shear bond strength (SBS) of metallic and ceramic orthodontic brackets using 60 extracted premolars divided into four groups. Results indicate that ceramic brackets without smoke exposure had the highest SBS (15.7 MPa), while metallic brackets exposed to smoke had the lowest SBS (2.8 MPa), with significant differences noted (P < 0.05).
