What is Highway Bridge Collision Design Standards about?
This standard provides criteria for designing highway bridges to withstand vehicle collision loads. It updates previous guidance and gives requirements for collision loading on bridge supports within 4.5m of a carriageway edge. Supports further than 4.5m may still require design for collision if deemed at risk. Collision loading is also specified for bridge superstructures with under 5.7m clearance. Load values are provided in Tables 1-3.
