What is Quality circles : how to make them work in America about?
Abstract: Practical guidance is provided for supervisors andmanagers who wish to install the "quality circle" process in US organizations. A quality circle is comprised of a small group of employees and their supervisor who voluntarily meet on a regular basis to study quality controland productivity improvement techniques. These techniques are applied to identify and solve work-related problems. Thesolutions to these problems are presented to management for approval and the implementation of these solutions are monitored to ensure that they work. The quality circle process has been successfully used in Japanese businesses and the success of this process is discussed and illustrated. Examples are given to show how this system can produce lower defect rates, improve productivity and employee morale, and reduce employee attrition, absenteeism, loss time rates, and accidents. (wz)
