What is Hume about?

David Hume was born in Scotland in 1711. He studied at Edinburgh University but found law studies distasteful. After a nervous breakdown, he spent time in France writing his major work A Treatise of Human Nature. The Treatise attempted to formulate a full philosophical system but was not well received. Hume then published revised versions as An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding and An Enquiry Concerning the Principles of Morals, which expressed his mature thought.
