What is In glory, Blessed Virgin Mary : poems & prayers about?

Throughout the Renaissance, artists and poets were drawn to Mary as an icon of grace, purity, beauty, and eternal motherly love. In Glory presents a number of breathtakingly beautiful paintings of the period, including masterpieces by da Vinci, Bellini, Cranach the Elder, Botticelli, and Holbein the Younger. Literary excerpts inspired by the Holy Mother also grace these pages, among them "Ave, Generosa - Ymnus de Sancta Maria" by the Abbess Hildegard of Bingen, "The Nativity of Christ" by Luis de Gngora, and "Ode to the Virgin" by Francesco Petrarch. This is a volume to treasure. Its ethereal Madonna and Child images, Florentine end-papers, stunning graphic ornaments, and calligraphy-inspired type lend this miniature gift book an intimate, jewel-like quality that reflects the spirit of the Books of Hours-those illuminated manuscripts so cherished in the late Middle Ages. Now, on the eve of a new millennium, this very special collection of images and words is a true celebration of the unique and timeless essence of the mother of Christ.
