What is Stanley about?

Stanley is teased for being overweight. In chapter 3, we learn that his family believes they are cursed because his great-great-grandfather stole a pig from a gypsy. In chapter 4, Stanley arrives at a juvenile detention camp, where the guard goes by "Mr. Sir" and has the campers dig holes every day as punishment. The camp is in the middle of the desert, so escaping would be impossible due to lack of water.
