What is LTE Tracking Area Update Procedure about?

1) A Tracking Area Update occurs when a UE detects it has entered a new tracking area, a periodic timer expires, or the UE changes networks between E-UTRAN and UTRAN/GERAN. 2) The UE sends a TAU Request to the eNodeB which forwards it to the new MME. The MME uses information in the request to retrieve context from the old MME. 3) The old MME responds with user context information and the new MME performs authentication and security functions before determining if the Serving GW needs changed.
