History of Zen Buddhism Explained by mmk08 is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Zen Buddhism originated from the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama in 500 BC in India. A Central Asian monk named Bodhidharma introduced Zen to China in the 5th century CE based on the Lanka School teachings concerning the study of mind. Zen focused on enlightenment rather than meditation initially. It was not until the 9th century that the name "Chan" or "Zen" was adopted in China, later spreading to Japan in the 13th century where it is now primarily practiced.
