The "Centro Social D. Huancaya" Orchestra Band was founded on February 27, 1971, in Lima by a group of musicians from Huancaya led by Diógenes Matos. The band was created to promote Yauyina and Peruvian folk music. They chose Diógenes Matos as director and appointed a president, secretary, treasurer, and board member. Since then, they have performed to promote Huancayan music.
