What is PulseNet: Foodborne Pathogen Subtyping about?

PulseNet is a national molecular subtyping network established by the CDC and state health departments to facilitate comparison of bacterial foodborne pathogens. It began in 1996 with 10 labs typing E. coli O157:H7 and now includes 48 public health labs typing 4 major foodborne pathogens. Through standardized subtyping methods, PulseNet aims to enable timely identification and tracing of multistate foodborne outbreaks.
