Irena Sendler was a Polish social worker who rescued over 2,500 Jewish children from the Warsaw Ghetto during the Holocaust. She smuggled children out in boxes, suitcases, and other containers and placed them with families or in convents and orphanages. Sendler worked with the Polish underground organization Zegota to rescue children from the ghetto before they could be deported to the Treblinka death camp. She kept records of the children
