What is Blanche Monnier: A Tale of Defiance about?

This document is a summary of the story of Blanche Monnier, a French socialite who was imprisoned by her mother in a tiny room for 25 years because she refused to abandon her love for a man her mother disapproved of. Blanche remained locked in the room, suffering from malnutrition and isolation, until she was discovered in 1901 after an anonymous note alerted authorities. Her mother was arrested and died in prison, while Blanche lived out the rest of her life in a psychiatric hospital.
