About this document

History of Gear Inventions by Zanbeel is a document available to read on EtoBox.

Gears have a long history dating back to at least the 4th century BC in China and were used in mechanisms like the ancient Antikythera device from Greece around 150-100 BC. Early gears spread from China and the Hellenistic world to Europe and the Middle East. The segmental gear and worm gear were invented in the early 13th century by Arab engineer Al-Jazari and in South Asia respectively. Differential gears were potentially used in ancient Chinese vehicles but were first verifiably used in Europe in 1720. G
