What is Florence Nightingale about?
Florence Nightingale was a young English lady who in 1849 traveled to Egypt where she had insights into Islam and Muslim society that influenced her later work. Despite facing social pressures to marry, she felt called to nursing and helped patients during an epidemic. Upon meeting Dr. Samuel Howe, she asked if it would be suitable for an Englishwoman to devote herself to charity work in hospitals, to which he encouraged. Nightingale went on to found modern nursing and effect lasting reforms in healthcare.
