What is Overview of the Runic Alphabet about?
The Runic alphabet was traditionally known as futhark after its first six letters. Little is known about its origins, but it was likely created independently rather than evolving from another alphabet. It is thought to have been modeled on Latin or northern Italian alphabets such as Raetic, Venetic, Etruscan, or Old Latin. The earliest known runic inscriptions date to around 150 AD, and runes were used to write Germanic languages until being replaced by the Latin alphabet with Christianization between 700-1
