This study assessed the bacterial water quality in personal water bottles used by elementary school students in Calgary, Alberta. Water samples were collected from 76 student water bottles and tested for total coliforms, fecal coliforms, and heterotrophic bacteria. The Canadian drinking water guidelines were exceeded for total coliforms in 13.3% of samples, fecal coliforms in 8.9% of samples, and heterotrophic bacteria in 64.4% of samples.
