This study investigates the effects of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) cultured on a poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) scaffold containing simvastatin (SIM) for bone healing. While in vitro results indicated that SIM negatively impacted MSC proliferation, in vivo results showed that both PLGA/SIM and PLGA/MSC scaffolds contributed to bone formation in rat calvaria defects. The findings suggest that strategies to enhance MSC viability in the presence of SIM could improve bone regeneration outcomes.
