What is Preface about?
## Preface ICDFT and its main themes were formulated in Lisbon in June 1987 when Representatives and Heads of partner-institutions (listed on the next page), of an ERASMUS funded Inter-University Network attended a 'signing' ceremony to collaborate with each other in various fields. The Conference received some 130 papers from around 37 countries. All the papers could fortunately be assembled under 11 topics which, in fact, were originally planned sessions to be covered during the three days of the Conference. The main volume of the Conference proceedings included some 50 papers as it was limited to around 500 pages. A selection of papers from the accompanying volume is now published in the same journal, after further and usual refereeing. It was mentioned in the earlier volume that there have been many conferences on (metal) forming to-date. Nowadays one also finds many papers in the well-known series of conferences in the general areas of manufacturing and production and on topics related to plasticity and/or materials engineering. However, ICDFT has been of somewhat different nature, with all modern aspects of today's forming technology. I would like to thank Mrs. Heike Erlenkam
