This document describes a study examining the normal features of the apex cardiogram, a recording of low frequency precordial movements at the cardiac apex. 30 normal subjects were studied using a piezo-electric microphone to record pulse wave forms at the apex. The normal apex cardiogram can be divided into 4 main phases: 1) the "a" wave, 2) the systolic wave, 3) the early ventricular filling wave, and 4) the slow ventricular filling wave.
