What is Alcohol Use and Abruptio Placentae Risk about?
This study investigated the association between preconception and prenatal alcohol use and abruptio placentae (placental abruption) in South Africa. The study included 65 cases of women with abruptio placentae and 66 control subjects. Women who drank alcohol 3 months before conception were 3 times more likely to develop abruptio placentae. Drinking alcohol during pregnancy also carried over 3 times the risk. On average, women in the study group consumed 13.6, 12.0, and 11.2 standard drinks per week 3 months
