What is The Adventures of Robin Hood about?
Robin Hood has become a legendary hero. His adventures, recorded in song, cinema and story, are the young readers’ delight. In England, during the 14th century, the Earl of Huntingdon, a Saxon lord, stripped of his estates by the Norman conquerors, sought refuge in Sherwood Forest. He called himself Robin Hood, and gathered around him a band of warriors, all of them rebels. They were called the outlaws of Sherwood Forest, and sought to alleviate the suffering of the poor and stem the tide of tyranny. Robin Hood and his outlaws were represented as robbing the rich to help the poor. He was the protector of women in distress, and the generous provider for the needy and hunted. These celebrated adventures in chivalry and prowess make the book not only exciting reading, but offer a revealing study of life in England during the early ascendancy and rule by the Norman conquerors.
