What is Regulation of Gastric Secretion Phases about?
Gastric secretions are regulated in three phases: 1) The cephalic phase is stimulated by sight, smell or thought of food which triggers vagus nerve signals and gastrin release. 2) The gastric phase is stimulated by food in the stomach activating vagus nerve signals and local stomach reflexes. 3) The intestinal phase inhibits gastric secretions when chyme in the duodenum triggers vagus nerve signals to the brain, local stomach reflexes, and hormones like secretin which are released.
