In this book the term fiberboard is used in the traditional sense of sheet products from reassembled flberlike wood and other ligno-cellulosic materials. Depending on densities, fiberboards appear as insulation board, medium-density fiberboard, and hardboard. (In the new U.S.-terminology, fiberboard becomes fiber-base board, while insulation board will be fiberboard in a new sense). The two authors introduce the reader first to the manufacture of fiberboard in the United States. "A brief history of this industry is followed by a discussion of some important technological and chemical factors as well as a survey of the raw material base. The bulk of the book describes the equipment and the processes including the insulation board process, the wet and dry hardboard processes, and the medium-density fiberboard process. Modern finishing processes are discussed in some detail, and an entire chapter is devoted to the important subject of water use and water treatment.
