New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and Schools Chancellor Carmen Fariña announced improvements in student test scores on State English and math exams. In English, 40.6% of students met proficiency standards, a 2.6 point increase from last year, and outperformed New York State students for the first time. In math, 37.8% met standards, a 1.3 point increase, with proficiency improving across all ethnic groups since 2013 in both subjects by 54% in English and 27% in math.
