Sex determination in humans is determined by the XY sex-determination system where females have two of the same kind of sex chromosome (XX) and males have two distinct sex chromosomes (XY). The Y chromosome contains the SRY gene which triggers testis development and male sex determination if present. In the absence of SRY, the gonads develop into ovaries by default due to the presence of an autosomal gene.
