This study analyzes how patients make requests during medical consultations and how general practitioners (GPs) respond, based on real-life Dutch consultations. Out of 257 patient requests identified, most were for information or advice, with indirect requests being common for medical care. The findings suggest that GPs often do not meet medical care requests and highlight the importance of communication strategies in maintaining the GP-patient relationship.
