Gestalt theory provides a simpler approach to analyzing the visual presentation of instructions compared to other research, which tends to be complex and repetitive. This document applies six Gestalt principles - proximity, closure, symmetry, figure-ground segregation, good continuation, and similarity - to improve the visual design of an instruction with multiple graphics. The first page of instructions contains violations of each principle, and subsequent pages show how applying each principle one by one
