I leave the question of how practical theology may help the world become what it is trying to be to another occasion, or, more likely, for others to pursue. By centering on the prior question, however, I signal my concern that practical theology engage in considered reflection on the world and its hopes for itself before offering Strategie proposals for action. James' importance for psychology of religion is already well recognized, but I believe that a case for his significance for practical theology can also be made. In advocating for this significance, however, I want to propose that this is more corrective than Substantive, a proposal that is consistent with how he tended to view himself.
