About this document

Rousseau by Gold Nitty is a document available to read on EtoBox.

Rousseau was a French philosopher from the Age of Enlightenment known for his theory of social contract. He believed that in a natural state humans are good but become corrupted by society. In his work "The Social Contract" he outlined an alternative social contract theory where popular sovereignty is indivisible and the general will of the people should be obeyed to ensure freedom. He argued citizens must subordinate themselves to laws created collectively rather than pursue individual interests.
