This study summarizes the experience of diagnosing acute haematogenous osteomyelitis (AHOM) and septic arthritis in children at a university hospital over 20 years. Medical records of 90 patients meeting diagnostic criteria for confirmed AHOM and/or septic arthritis were reviewed. Blood cultures were positive in 52% of cases and tissue cultures were positive in 57% of cases. Elevated ESR and CRP were seen in most patients and bone scans and MRI were highly effective diagnostic tools, with plain radiographs
