An innovative method is presented which simpliÿes the formal solution of the di erential equations describing heat transfer in domestic dwellings. The method described here utilises Duhamel's theorem and methods for solving Volterra integro-di erential equations under certain conditions to develop the analytic solution to these di erential equations. Previous work by the author on the level of complexity of weather data needed for simulation of a building's thermal performance permits the use of this methodology.
