Antifungal Agents: Mechanisms & Classifications by Shreeharsh Sharma is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Fungal infections can be treated with several classes of antifungal agents that work via different mechanisms. Azoles like clotrimazole, econazole and oxiconazole are commonly used topical antifungals that inhibit ergosterol synthesis in fungal cell membranes. Polyenes such as amphotericin B directly bind to ergosterol in membranes to form pores, while griseofulvin inhibits microtubule formation. These antifungals are prescribed based on the type and site of infection.
