This operation was carried out in concert with other simultaneous attacks being launched against areas as distant as Wake Island, The Philippines, Hong Kong, Malaya and Singapore. The Imperial Japanese armed forces were to succeed 'beyond their wildest dreams' and 'ran amok' inside this theatre of operations upto mid 1942 where two land and sea battles marked the turning points of the Pacific War - the Australian offensive in Milne Bay New Guinea and the American offensive on Guadalcanal. Ultimately after years of bitter conflict it all finally came to an end with the use of Nuclear Weapons for the first time in recorded history.
